Kids & Teens

Statton Opticians offers child-friendly eye examinations that will tell us everything we need to know about your child's eye health. Children don't have to be able to read to have an eye test. You can trust us to perform the same careful eye examination on your own child that we do for our own children. We'll ask you about family history and check your child's sight against expected levels of development for their age. We will also assess their vision and see if it needs correcting, following this we'll discuss the results clearly with you.

Children qualify for an NHS voucher, at Statton Opticians we have a great range of children glasses ranging from coloured metals to funky plastics, with the majority of costs covered by your NHS Voucher, meaning complete pairs of glasses and repairs at minimal cost.

Once they've had their first eye examination, your child will soon get into the habit of having their eyes checked regularly. We like to see children at least every year to ensure we and you are looking after their precious sight and to help you with any questions you have about your child's vision. Come in with your child to see us anytime. Older children may be interested in contact lenses - click here for more information.

Dyslexic Visual assessment

It's estimated up to 1 in every 10 people in the UK has some degree of dyslexia. Dyslexia is a lifelong problem that can present challenges on a daily basis, but support is available to improve reading and writing skills and help those with the problem to be successful at school and work

Reading discomfort often referred to as ‘dyslexia’ affects people who are unable to “grasp the meaning of written or printed words and sentences” or “to read more than a few lines with understanding.” It is believed that Dyslexia could be a visual disorder as well as a neurological disorder. Problems can show themselves in reading, writing, number work, short-term memory, hand control and visual processing. Timekeeping, sense of direction and interpersonal skills can also be affected.

At Stratton Opticians, we are able to help children and adults with their visual processing using various tinted lenses. ChromaGen is a unique system of coloured lenses for dyslexia. It provides a quick and reliable screening test for visual dyslexia. When the patient selects the right color combination during the assessment an immediate improvement can be experienced including clearer text, ease of reading and word and number recognition. As a result, text typically becomes clearer and stays still on the page. Please contact us directly for further information on this service.
